Spotlight review from Knitty:
The knitting patterns are gorgeous modern classics. Twisted stitches represent ironwork and color knitting represents tile work. The accessories are simple shapes with the colorwork and stitch patterns taking center stage. The Fringe Socks are brilliant – socks mimicking tilework that mimics a woven rug. The Peacock Cowl and Mitts are graceful and beautiful. The garments may seem simple in shape, but Stephannie has taken great care to add shaping to each garment. These are sweaters that a woman will look beautiful in because the design is stunning and because the garment actually fits a woman’s body. I am in love with the simple Tiles Sweater and complexly wonderful Wrought Cardigan (actually, all of the Wrought patterns).
This is a wonderful book. The author shows equal reverence for designing beautiful knitting patterns and the architecture and craftwork that inspired them. – Knitty, first fall 2012 issue
More great reviews:
Visually, California Revival Knits is a smorgasborg of West Coast colors and textures, that will whet your appetite for even more. The fact that Stephannie used yarn from small, indy yarn companies for most of the projects just ads to the books appeal. If you’re looking for inspiration and ideas for your own designs, you want a book to read over the weekend, or you are on the prowl for your next exciting knitting project, you’ll find more than you bargained for in this fabulous book. – Donna Druchunas, Sheep to Shawl
Stephannie is so clear and succinct about the design process that I can say that I have learned from her. Even her brief discussion about mood boards is a revelation. – Wendy Bernard, Knit and Tonic
Stephannie’s patterns have always excelled in the fine details, but my favorite pattern must be the Wrought Iron Cardi. I’ve always been a sucker for a cardigan, but this one has it all: twisted stitches add depth and dimension, a shawl collar to snuggle down into on chilly evenings, and a pattern with seven different sizes and a full schematic. Absolutely perfect! – Sarah Eyre, A Smaller Life
The designs are stunning…. these Peacock fingerless mitts are haunting my dreams…. – Kate Atherley, Wise Hilda Knits
California Revival Knits is an excellent and cohesive collection of a quite varied group of designs. The schematics and charts are clear—none of that “reverse the design for the left mitt” stuff, the chart is there for each hand! Love it. The two sweaters come in a wide range of sizes. Love this, too! I also enjoyed the introductory section—Stephannie takes us on a tour of a decorative tile factory to see how tiles are made by hand. – Janine Bajus, Feral Knitter
Everything in the book looks lovely, I can’t wait to knit them! — Emily D., a customer
